Night 1 (Mon, Oct 28): Contextualizing Exorcism  
Hosts Sarah and Lindsey will examine the historical roots of exorcism, address misconceptions and misapplications of exorcism, and explore notable cases. From Ginsberg’s countercultural "be-ins" to the public levitation of the Pentagon to the dramatic Loudon Possessions, this session will highlight a range of historic exorcisms and the theological frameworks behind them.

Night 2 (Tues, Oct 29): Powers and Principalities
Through the works of theologians Walter Wink and William Stringfellow, Sarah and Lindsey will discuss the concepts of institutional powers, political ideologies, and cultural images, and the practical implications of exorcism rituals in both personal and communal contexts.

Night 3 (Wed, Oct 30): Exorcism and Psychology
Presenter Jonah Emerson-Bell will examine spirit possession through a psychological lens, utilizing Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Jungian notions of the shadow to conceptualize spirit attachments. He will also discuss various cross-cultural approaches to working with demons, drawing on the works of Eduardo Duran and Tsultrim Allione. Additionally, Jonah will share his personal experience with addiction, framing it as a form of spiritual possession. This talk will provide participants with psychological frameworks for understanding spirit possession and practical strategies for auric protection.

Night 4 (Mon, Nov 4): Astrological Applications
In a roundtable discussion, Lindsey, Sarah, and Jonah will explore the astrological implications of their research, with a focus on the malefic influences of Mars and Saturn in natal and transiting charts. This session will look at how the concept of exorcism can help us reframe "bad planets" and "bad transits" in our personal and collective astrology.

Join us for an immersive exploration of exorcism from spiritual, psychological, and cosmic perspectives, and learn how these ancient practices can be applied in modern contexts. All sessions will be recorded for replay for registered participants and made available to watch for one month afterward.

About the presenters:

Lindsey Turner (they/them) is a consulting astrologer, community minister, and ritual arts specialist. They work at the intersections of Christianity and astrology through the lens of liberationist ethics. Lindsey holds and M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary and was ordained in 2019 as an ecumenical Christian minister. Lindsey trained in clinical spiritual care at the Jewish Theological Seminary. They currently live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on an orchard with their chosen family and three pit bulls.

Sarah Knoll (she/her) is a queer chaplain educator in Houston hospitals. Ordained an Episcopal priest in 2008, Sarah has served in congregations, schools, and the seminary context teaching spiritual care, world religious studies, ethics, and holistic sexuality education. She and Lindsey have been collaborating at the intersections of their astrological practice and Christian heritage for two years. She also teaches from the Narrative Enneagram tradition, and serves on the board of Wellspring Chaplaincy Initiative, furthering Muslim and interfaith healthcare chaplains' education and development. Jonah Emerson-Bell (he/him) is a tarot reader and astrologer with a background in Hypnosis and Integration Coaching. He holds a BFA from California College of Art. His work uses the archetypal language of symbol to help make the unconscious conscious and incorporates myth, magick, and creativity as ways to support meaningful change. He is currently completing a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Southwestern College in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and is an astrological advisor on the AstroStar Live astrology app.
