About Me

Five years ago I had reached a crossroads: choose between my career as a minister and my faith commitments to celebrate and honor trans and queer people. I chose my values. Since leaving an institutional setting, I’ve had the space to come out as non-binary and become a devoted astrologer and ritual consultant. That’s why I chose the nickname Bad Pastor– it’s a response to “this is how we’ve always done it,” to tough conversations about power and ethics, to the church’s too-often denial of the full, divine humanity of children, queer and trans people. I love the people in the in-between or outside spaces of religion, because that’s where I belong, too.

My journey has made clear to me that we have a major cultural crisis of not trusting our inner permission. I help people make major change and take big leaps of faith by helping them cultivate and trust their inner permission. I’ve worked with folks of many faith backgrounds to move more fully into their ideal lives. Here are some of the life-changing results my clients have seen through our work together:

  • Found the courage to leave a marriage

  • Confronted a fear of spirituality after serious church trauma

  • Gained a new command of time and meaning through astrology

  • Unlearned toxic theology about gender and sexuality

  • Got sober

  • Found security in intuitive and psychic abilities

I hold a Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary, a well-known leader in progressive theology. At the end of my time there, I won an award for my scholarship in art, theology, and ritual. Since 2012, I have been studying ritual theory and working as a ritual consultant and practitioner. I have thousands of hours of experience in developing rituals from the ground up, including worship services, rites of passage, and major public events. I’m comfortable leading ritual events and I’ve spent years facilitating teams of people to create and lead their own.

As a practitioner in a lineage of liberation, I credit much of my journey and framework to the Black liberation scholars who taught me at Union. I aspire to embody their teachings of social and racial justice. Additionally, the Jewish Theological Seminary provided me with my training in clinical pastoral care, honing my skills in and capacity for interfaith spiritual accompaniment.

I practice a combination of traditional and humanistic astrology. This means that I attempt to delineate charts with the rigor of astrology’s creators, and also incorporate modern psychology and other sensibilities into my work. Astrology is a complete symbolic system that reflects the fullness of our humanity. On a metaphysical level, I understand astrology as a language we can use to communicate with the divine.

I love singing and music, am fairly obsessed with my dogs Bella Rose, Gil, and Banana, and spend a ton of time renovating buildings and growing plants on the orchard I share with my friends and partner. I love power tools and also snuggling.
