Empowered Astrology: A Conversation with Lisa Warman x Lindsey Turner
I’ve been having a lot of conversations lately about why astrology matters—not just as a framework for insight, but as a tool for healing. For empathy. For deep, life-affirming change.
This fall, I’m co-creating a retreat called Empowered Astrology with Lisa Warman of Cosme Astrology, and I wanted to offer a kind of reflection—part transcript, part heart-share—from a recent conversation we had. I hope this gives you a deeper sense of what the retreat is about, and why I feel so passionate about bringing this work into the world right now.
What Drew Me Here
When I was younger, the night sky was where I looked for God. That sense of awe, that feeling of being part of something larger—it was my first spiritual language.
As I got older, I went to seminary to explore that connection more intentionally. At the same time, I found myself deep in a therapeutic process that helped me understand the importance of self-connection too. Those two threads—astrology and healing—have been woven together in my work ever since.
Today, I’m a minister, astrologer, and Certified Empowerment Practitioner. My background includes training in the Nonviolent Communication (NVC) Method and person-centered therapy. Astrology helps me stay connected to the vastness. NVC keeps me grounded in the human heart. And both together have changed how I move through the world.
So... Why This Retreat?
To be honest, I don’t think we need more astrology that only lives in the mind.
So many astrology spaces are either hyper-practical or super esoteric. I love both ends of that spectrum, but I want to create a space that brings the cosmic and the concrete together—where spiritual insight and emotional integration are both central to the experience.
We’re living through a time of real unraveling. Systems are breaking down. Many of us are rethinking everything—from how we relate to our work, to what care means, to how we navigate conflict.
Empowered Astrology was born out of that moment. It’s about offering frameworks that help us meet this time with more presence, more compassion, and more choice.
Astrology as a Language of Needs
Here’s one of my core beliefs: the twelve zodiac signs each represent universal human needs. And the planets? They show us how we tend to go about getting those needs met.
When we look at our charts this way, we’re not just diagnosing personality traits—we’re opening up pathways for greater self-empathy and relational healing.
Let me give you an example. My Moon is in Leo in the 11th house. I have deep needs for creativity, collaboration, and joyful expression—especially in community. But for a long time, I judged those needs as self-indulgent. I thought I should be more serious, more solitary, more “respectable.” I thought I was failing because I didn’t become a lawyer or land some high-powered job.
What I’ve come to understand is that honoring those needs—really letting them guide me—has made me more fulfilled, more resourced, and more connected to my purpose. That’s what I want to help others discover too.
How NVC and Astrology Work Together
Astrology gives us the map. NVC gives us the language to move through it.
If you’re newer to Nonviolent Communication, it’s a method that helps us identify our feelings, name the needs underneath them, and take action that honors both our needs and those of others. It’s helped me embody the values I always believed in—things like dignity, compassion, and mutual respect.
When paired with astrology, it’s a powerful combination. You get to understand your chart as more than just a snapshot of fate—it becomes a living, breathing tool for transformation.
Who This Retreat Is For
This retreat is for folks who have already done some inner work—but maybe feel stuck, plateaued, or are craving something deeper.
It’s for people who believe in the inherent worth of all beings but haven’t quite figured out how to live like that’s true for themselves.
It’s for astrology lovers who want to learn a new, healing-centered approach to the chart—one that’s rooted in empathy, not ego.
And it’s definitely for people in transition. People who are done playing small. People who are ready for that next big step but need support getting there.
What We'll Actually Do
We’ll be gathering at COSME Astrology in Tucson, Arizona from October 24–26.
Each day will include a mix of teaching, personal reflection, chart work, somatic grounding, and group practice. We’ll explore both natal astrology and the “Living Sky,” and you’ll leave with tools to keep working long after the retreat ends.
The container is intimate on purpose. This work is vulnerable—it asks us to get honest about our patterns, our pain, and our desires. And it’s also wildly liberating.
A Final Word (Especially If You’re Hesitating)
If you feel called but nervous, I want to invite you to get curious about that feeling. Where does it live in your body? What need might it be pointing to?
Nervousness isn’t always a red flag—it can be a green light signaling growth, autonomy, aliveness, or the desire to be seen.
You don’t need to be fixed. You don’t need to be an “advanced” astrologer. You just need to bring your full self and your willingness to be in process.
That’s more than enough.
